Before You Move to Burleson, TX: What to Know About Commutes, Traffic & Getting Around
If you're thinking about moving to Burleson, Texas, there's a lot to love about this growing community just south of Fort Worth.
You have beautiful neighborhoods, great local restaurants, shopping, parks, community events, and that smaller-town atmosphere that attracts so many people to South DFW.
But one of the things I always encourage buyers to consider when choosing where to live is something that doesn't necessarily show up in the listing photos.
How easy is it to get where you need to go?
And that's actually one of the reasons Burleson has become such an appealing option for people relocating to the Dallas–Fort Worth area.
You can enjoy living outside the busiest parts of the Metroplex while still having access to Fort Worth, major highways, employment centers, and plenty of shopping and entertainment.
I'm Stephanie Deeds, Broker/Owner of Point Realty, and John and I help buyers explore communities throughout South DFW.
If Burleson is on your list, let's talk about its location, commuting options, and a few things worth knowing before choosing your neighborhood.
1. Burleson's Location Is One of Its Biggest Advantages
One of the first things people notice about Burleson is how conveniently it's positioned just south of Fort Worth.
You can enjoy a community with its own identity while still being connected to everything the larger Metroplex offers.
For people who work in Fort Worth, Burleson can be an especially attractive option.
Whether your destination is Downtown Fort Worth, the Medical District, TCU, or one of the employment centers along the I-35W corridor, you have a fairly direct route north.
And when you're not working?
You're close enough to enjoy Fort Worth's restaurants, museums, shopping, entertainment, and cultural attractions without necessarily living in the middle of the city.
That's a combination a lot of buyers appreciate.
Of course, like any growing metropolitan area, traffic varies depending on the time of day. But having that direct connection to Fort Worth is a major reason people consider Burleson.
2. I-35W Makes Traveling North and South Convenient
If you're moving to Burleson, you'll become familiar with Interstate 35W.
It's one of the area's primary transportation corridors and provides a direct connection between Burleson and Fort Worth.
For residents who commute north, it's often the most straightforward option.
I-35W also connects with I-20, giving drivers access to Arlington, other parts of Fort Worth, and additional DFW destinations.
One thing to understand is that morning and afternoon traffic can be heavier, particularly as you approach Fort Worth.
But that's something you'll encounter throughout much of the Dallas–Fort Worth area.
My advice is to look at your typical work schedule and consider how flexible your commute might be.
Someone leaving at 6:30 in the morning may have a very different experience than someone leaving at 8:00.
And if you work remotely or have a hybrid schedule, Burleson's location can be even more appealing.
You get the benefits of living in a community outside central Fort Worth without needing to make that drive every day.
3. Chisholm Trail Parkway Gives Some Residents Another Option
Here's something that makes Burleson particularly interesting.
Depending on where you live, you may have more than one practical route into Fort Worth.
Chisholm Trail Parkway is a toll road that runs through southwest Fort Worth and connects with areas south of the city.
For residents on the western side of Burleson, it can provide an alternative to I-35W.
And I always like having options.
If one route is experiencing heavier traffic, having another way to reach your destination can be helpful.
Now, Chisholm Trail Parkway does have tolls, so that's something to include when comparing your monthly commuting costs.
But for some residents, the convenience and route flexibility may make it worthwhile.
The key is figuring out which roads make the most sense from the specific neighborhood you're considering.
4. Burleson Is Investing in Its Roads as the Community Grows
One thing that's important to understand about Burleson is that it isn't standing still.
The city continues to grow, and transportation improvements are part of planning for that growth.
A good example is the widening project along SH 174, also known as Wilshire Boulevard.
This is one of Burleson's major commercial corridors, connecting neighborhoods with shopping, restaurants, businesses, and other destinations.
The project began in October 2026 and includes widening a section of Wilshire Boulevard from four lanes to six lanes between Wicker Hill Road and north of Elk Drive.
Plans also include improvements to turn lanes, traffic signals, and sidewalks.
The project is currently expected to be completed in fall 2028.
While construction can create temporary changes to traffic patterns, the goal is to improve mobility as the community continues developing.
TxDOT has also been studying potential improvements along I-35W between I-20 and SH 174.
I think it's encouraging to see transportation needs being addressed as more people choose to call Burleson home.
And for buyers considering the area, it's worth knowing both what infrastructure exists today and what improvements are being planned for the future.
5. Choosing the Right Burleson Neighborhood Can Make Your Routine Easier
This is where working with someone who understands the area can make a difference.
Burleson has a variety of neighborhoods, and their locations can offer different advantages depending on your lifestyle.
For example, if you commute into Fort Worth regularly, you might prefer a neighborhood with convenient access to I-35W.
If you work in southwest Fort Worth, you may want to explore neighborhoods with easier access to Chisholm Trail Parkway.
And if you work from home, you might place more importance on the size of your home, neighborhood amenities, or having a little more outdoor space.
There are also buyers who want to be close to shopping, restaurants, and everyday conveniences along Wilshire Boulevard.
Others prefer areas that feel a little farther removed from the busiest commercial corridors.
Neither choice is right or wrong.
It's about finding the location that fits your daily routine.
And that's one of the things John and I enjoy helping buyers figure out.
Sometimes two homes may be similar in price and features, but their locations create completely different everyday experiences.
6. You May Not Need to Leave Burleson as Often as You Think
Here's something I think deserves more attention.
Burleson has developed into a community where residents can handle many of their everyday needs without driving into Fort Worth.
You'll find grocery stores, restaurants, medical services, fitness centers, shopping, parks, and entertainment options throughout the area.
The Wilshire Boulevard corridor is a major destination for shopping and dining.
And Old Town Burleson offers a different experience, with locally owned restaurants, shops, and community events.
For families, Burleson also has parks, recreation facilities, youth sports, and activities that make it easier to enjoy time close to home.
That means even if you commute to Fort Worth for work, many of your evenings and weekends can be spent right in your own community.
And for a lot of buyers, that's a big part of the appeal.
7. What About Commuting to Arlington, Dallas, or Other DFW Cities?
Burleson isn't just an option for people working in Fort Worth.
Depending on your schedule and destination, it can also work for people commuting to Arlington, Mansfield, and other parts of the Metroplex.
With access to I-35W and I-20, you can connect to several major DFW corridors.
Of course, the farther your destination is from Burleson, the more important it becomes to evaluate your commute.
For example, someone working in South Arlington will have a different driving experience than someone commuting to North Dallas or Frisco.
That's why I always recommend looking at the actual workplace address rather than just the city name.
DFW is a large metropolitan area, and commute times can vary considerably depending on where you're going.
But with a little planning, you can make a much more informed decision about which community and neighborhood fit your needs.
8. A Few Simple Ways to Make Your Commute Work Better
If you're relocating to Burleson, here are a few things I recommend doing before choosing a home.
Compare your route options. Look at I-35W, Chisholm Trail Parkway, and the local roads connecting your neighborhood to major highways.
Check traffic during your normal travel hours. A commute at noon may look completely different from one during the morning rush.
Think about your whole routine. Consider school drop-offs, grocery shopping, activities, and the places you visit most often.
Explore different neighborhoods. Sometimes choosing a home a few miles closer to your preferred highway can make everyday travel more convenient.
Consider your work flexibility. If you have a hybrid schedule or can adjust your start time, you may have more options when deciding where to live.
And here's something I always tell buyers:
Don't just tour the house. Explore the surrounding area.
Drive through the neighborhood, visit the nearby shopping centers, and see what the community feels like at different times of day.
Those little details can help you feel much more confident about your decision.
9. Why So Many Buyers Are Choosing Burleson
When you look at the bigger picture, it's easy to understand why Burleson continues attracting buyers.
You have access to Fort Worth, major highways, local shopping, restaurants, and a growing selection of neighborhoods.
But you also have something that can be harder to find in larger cities.
A community that still enjoys its local traditions, downtown events, parks, and opportunities to connect with neighbors.
For some buyers, Burleson offers the balance they've been looking for.
They can work in Fort Worth, enjoy the amenities of a major metropolitan area, and come home to a community that feels a little more removed from the center of it all.
And with different neighborhoods and commuting options available, there's an opportunity to find a location that fits your particular lifestyle.
Is Burleson, TX, a Good Place to Live If You Commute?
For many buyers, absolutely!
Especially if you work in Fort Worth, southwest Fort Worth, or another nearby South DFW community.
Burleson's location gives residents access to major transportation routes while offering plenty of reasons to spend time close to home.
Like any growing city, you'll encounter busy roads and ongoing improvements.
But understanding your options ahead of time can help you choose a neighborhood that makes sense for your schedule.
And that's really what this conversation is about.
Not finding a city where you'll never encounter traffic.
It's about finding a place where your home, commute, and lifestyle work well together.
